A High School Coach Got Fired for Yanking a Girl’s Ponytail
Don’t do this.
Some people get really, really into high school sports. We call these people “not normal.”
To some extent, I get it. It’s easy to get wrapped up in a game, regardless of who’s playing it, and for some students, doing well in high school athletics can mean the difference between going to college on a scholarship and accruing a lifetime of student loan debt.
Still, if you find yourself getting so impassioned about student sports that you yank a player’s ponytail, well, you’ve probably taken a wrong turn somewhere along the way.
New York high school basketball coach Jim Zullo was approaching his team after their loss when, for some reason, he felt compelled to yank on one of the player’s ponytails. While the player was his great-niece, people reacted less with “oh, this is just some playful family banter” and more “what the fuck are you doing, old man?”
He has since been fired and put out an apology. Just keep your hands off the players, mmk?
