High risk, high reward.
Imagine this: You’re the police, and there’s a man holding a gun threatening to kill himself. What do you do?
Many people would try to talk the man out of it. But, if you’re the Columbus Police and you’ve already tried that for two hours, you go for the next best thing: hiring a Vietnam sniper to shoot the gun out of his hands.
Back in August of 1992, a man named Doug Conley began waving around a gun threatening to off himself. In response, the Columbus Police brought on a man named Mike Plumb, who was a veteran of the Vietnam War. From 82 yards away, he managed to shoot the gun out of Conley’s hands, allowing him to be apprehended.
Conley’s first words after being nabbed? “That was a good shot.” Damn right it was!
