I know this is a bold statement, but it might be the dumbest TikTok trend yet.

About a decade ago, school districts realized that they could save some money by buying cheap Chromebooks for students instead of proper laptops. While this made sense in some ways, it resulted, in part, in two unique and terrible things: 1) a *reduced* technological literacy in younger generations when compared to older ones; and 2) a mentality that computers are cheap and can be fucked with.

Put all that together, and you have the newest TikTok trend: destroying your school’s Chromebook.

What started out as a cool “trick” to make your USB port start smoking (yes, really) has now become a full-on meme, with numerous videos populating social media of people ripping apart, smashing or otherwise violating their Chromebook.

I want to have faith in this new generation, but shit like this is really testing my patience.
