Two Churches Rang in Easter by Shooting Fireworks at Each Other

Celebrate Easter by putting out the fire on your roof!

These two churches on the Greek island of Chios have a tradition. Every Easter, they begin pelting each other with fireworks with the goal of hitting the other church’s bell.

Not helping matters is the fact that the churches themselves, Saint Mark’s and Panagia Ereithiani, are built on two hilltops that are about 400 meters apart — juuuuust close enough to make one believe that this is actually possible, especially if they’ve had enough Ouzo during their Easter dinner.

It might be dangerous and potentially against the spirit of Easter, but it’s pretty entertaining to watch.
