It’s easier to put up a sign than to train the horse.

I know we domesticated them about 6,000 years ago, but at the end of the day, horses are still wild animals. Yes, you may be able to ride them now with limited issues, but they can still occasionally go nuts and kick you in the head!

Even horses that have formal training can go a little loopy sometimes. For example, guards in London sit at attention on horseback. Tourists love this shit, so they frequently get close to them for a photo — conveniently ignoring the signs saying that they might get bitten.

As a result, they *do* get bitten. A lot.
